Mayo- Drop kicked

I was making my rounds this morning and came across this from Fanball.com:

Our View: Maysonet had opened hot at the plate after starting games at second base with Kazuo Matsui on the DL but has cooled of late.

Really. He’s cooled of late? How exactly do you stay hot when you sit on the bench day after day? I’d say the writing was on the wall for Mayo. After being treated like a red headed stepchild, Mayo was sent down to Round Rock. He did everything that was asked of him and more, but that wasn’t enough for this clueless manager. He wanted to showcase the switch hitting Kata and I can only guess that it could be as possible trade bait. If so, good luck with that. I think my request for extra Mayo didn’t make it to the mgrs desk. I get it, this isn’t Burger King, I don’t get it my way. I don’t think Burger King uses that slogan anymore, but there is nothing wrong with a little blast from the past. Now they have done a parody on a popular song and it goes something like this ”I like square butts and I cannot lie.”  Do what? Interesting advertising for the kiddos BG.

Backe…”he gone” and it was time. After possibly rushing himself back from Tommy John surgery, he did good in September of 2007. His numbers were poor in 2008 and this year they weren’t any better. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery like Nieve? Please don’t let this be another Nieve story. Is the scenery that bad in Houston? I don’t think so, and he’s from Galveston for christ’s sake.

Paulino had another great outing and struck out 9 in his first start coming back from the DL. I’m thinking the kid may be here to stay. Greg Lucas mentioned that we have 6 able bodies to pitch now, but I wouldn’t go that far….maybe 3 1/2. The Astros are 2 games under .500. and I keep wondering when they will make it there. They are winning again and Lance is heating up, the two go hand in hand.

M*A*S*H

Somebody call Hawkeye Pierce and Trapper John because this is getting ugly. Seriously, we’re running out of duct tape here. Backe, Matsui and Brocail are literally being held together with it. I can’t even begin to list all the names of the wounded this year, it’s too long and my entries are short. The latest to join the DL is Old Man Hampton. He was probably a little ticked off that everyone else was getting these paid vacations, so he decided to join in the fun. I mean, at his age you really need some extra time off. I did find a silver lining to all these injuries, and please enjoy this sarcasm, we got Matsui back. That’s right folks; he’s baaack, like a recurring nightmare. You can bet on anything sports related at Vegas, so I wonder what the over/under is on Matsui making it to the All Star Break healthy?

The Silver Boot. What a joke this is. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Astros post game show as Alyson Footer (Astros Senior Director of Twitter Facebook Digital Blog Media and Photo Relations) and Kevin Eschenfelder (FS Anchor) discussed this last night. Kevin wondered who won it last year, Alyson helplessly thumbed through her notes while shaking her head, no one knew. Kevin confessed he should know these things before hand, and maybe so, but I found it comical. I think it proves my point that no one really cares about this cow chip kicking silver boot.

It should be interesting to see what Backe does in the 3rd game of this “Lone Star Series” and I hope he does well, I really do. I like for things to make sense and this obsession with Backe and Matsui really boggles my mind.
