Q&A Part Deux

This is for you Susan…

8. “Can Wandy beat his personal-best 2009 season?”

I don’t think so. I certainly hope he can regroup and start the regular season off right. I normally refrain from being alarmed by Spring Training stats but I’m taking exception here. First of all, he has had some issues with the 1st inning. Then today, he was hammered in the 3rd. Sure…his wife is being induced tomorrow, so he’s distracted. That doesn’t excuse him for the other outings where he has struggled.

9.  “When is Norris going to be a star?”

He has the “stuff” to be a difference maker. Arnsberg said he is one of those pitchers that he can have his back turned, and still know it’s him pitching. That’s impressive.

10. “Will Berkman get a new contract?”

Extremely doubtful. He’s in the twilight of his career, and I feel indifferent about it. I really like the guy as a person, etc., but this is a business and there are many question marks surrounding the health of Lance Berkman.

11. “Will the improved infield defense turn into wins?”

It could equate to more wins if the defense makes up for the offensive numbers that were lost. Feliz is an upgrade defensively, and so is Manzella. I do know that I’m looking forward to watching them flash the leather. Sloppy defense really turns me off as a fan.

12.  “Will Wright be called up later in the season – as a starter?”

I don’t think so. If anything Moehler will get the call as a starter before Wright does. I have never seen Wright show that he can be a SP.

13.  “And how about “Will RoundRock15 ever reappear?”

I don’t think so. The statute of limitations has passed. ;)

Carry on…

Wandy back to secondary status

The Wand.jpgI did it. I wasn’t the only one. There were some of us anointing Wandy as the new ace of the pitching staff. It was just a tad premature, but it was warranted. Roy had been struggling, and Wandy was the only pitcher on this staff that you could really count on to come out and perform. The only pitcher you really felt good about when he strutted out to the mound. Moehler, you don’t know what you’re getting from one start to the next. Mike Hampton is just as inconsistent, so I could type “ditto” here and it would be understood. And what’s that other guy’s name? Seriously, Paulino had an excellent outing last time out, and I really enjoyed watching him pitch. I also watched him pitch in person in April, and after holding the Brewers at bay for most of the game, things began to unravel around the 5th inning. This is what I have come to expect from all the other guys; inconsistency. Smoke and mirrors is what we started with, and it may be what we end with.

I knew Wandy was due for a stinker, but not 3 of them in a row. It’s time to shake out of it dude, c’mon. Get back to the basics, and back to what made you successful before. Keep the ball down, and remember this; you belong here. I use to make fun of him…we called him Wandy (it rhymes with Randy) and then his last name was Wodwiguez (give it an Elmer Fudd spin and it works great.) Now, say it with me “Wandy Wodwiguez.” We had not been calling him that for a while now. There was all due respect to The Wand. I want to keep calling him by his proper name, but I don’t know if I can at this juncture. We’ll see. Wandy Wodwiguez or Wandy Rodriguez, it’s all up to you partner.

On a more upbeat note, we have a chance to escape from the cellar with this series against the Pirates. We do not have to face Zach Duke, and this is a good thing. He has been bringing it this year, and has been looking like the pitcher they had back in 2005. Ok, enough about the Pirates.

Have I mentioned how much I love this Mayo kid?

The Magic Wand

You must believe in the Magic Wand, my wife does. ;) I’m speaking of Wandy Rodriguez here. I believe in him and most fans do. Cooper on the other hand, not so much. Wandy surprisingly made it to 116 pitches last night and that was real progress. He was a man on a mission. Cooper did give it one more inning just like I had asked him to do. I’m so glad he read this blog and then applies it. In the post game interview, Cooper basically said he wants Wandy around for June, July and August and that, along with the 116 pitches, is why he brought in Hawkins for the 9th. What a crock. I was happy that Wandy was able to go 8 IP, but I wanted more, Wandy wanted more, and he deserved the chance to pitch a complete game. Cooper copped out. He needs to take some lessons from Larry Dierker (the former pitcher and manager of the Houston Astros) he believed in his pitchers, and they respected him for that. His pitchers probably went too far in some cases. Wandy told the media after the game that he was ready to go back out there. I don’t know if Cooper is losing his players, but he could be and it would make sense.

You are probably wondering why I use bigger font. That is because I want it to appear as if I wrote more than I actually did.
